Two Oil Paintings by Hattie Bothwell at Bothwell Lodge Sedalia Missouri, 1882

Two oil paintings on canvas in wooden frames were painted in 1882 by Mr. Bothwell's wife, Hattie Ellen Jaynes Bothwell. The paintings depict songbirds tied up with strings and her signature is located on the bottom right of each painting. A possible explanation for the subjects of the paintings is that at one time, songbird meat was a prized delicacy. If that is true, the paintings would most likely be of a hunter's quarry.
