Harry Truman Returns to Jackson County Missouri as President Visiting 216 N. Delaware

On June 28, 1945, the second day of Harry Truman's visit to Jackson County as president, he began the day with a visit to family at 216 N. Delaware.

On June 28, 1945, around 9:00 a.m., Harry Truman started his day by visiting his aunt, Ella Truman Noland, and cousins, Nellie and Ethel Noland, at 216 N. Delaware.

Ella Truman Noland was an older sister to John A. Truman, Harry Truman's father. The Nolands had lived at 216 North Delaware since 1900 and Harry Truman had stayed at the home on an infrequent basis while he was courting Bess Wallace during the period from 1910 to 1919.

Nellie and Ethel Noland were slightly younger than Harry Truman and both went on to become school teachers in the Kansas City area.

The visit was short and Truman left around 9:10 a.m. to go to his office in the federal courthouse located at 811 Grand Avenue.
